National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) is a central organization setup by the Government of India for the purpose of guiding the Central and State government schools in developing and imparting quality standard in academic education. The fact that during these years, the NCERT has played a vital role in the Indian school education couldn’t be ignored!

The greatest emphasis of this central body is to help the Government in making decisions with respect to education affairs; to make the education available to maximum number of people; enhancing educational standards till date… It is important to stay up-to-date on what is being taught to young India. Being relevant in anything we do is crucial in 21st century global world. In order to shape up our kids to the growing demands of the global economy, the value of NCERT’s research is unparalleled. NCERT conducts research within its constituent bodies and also provides financial assistance and academic guidance to its associated bodies. NCERT also provides research assistantship for scholars to complete their thesis. NCERT has also built the required computer facilities for storing, processing and retrieval of data, which is quintessential requirement for conducting large scale research operations.

It provides training to teachers at various levels; comprising the elementary, secondary and higher secondary education system. It also strives hard in imparting, a quality education in the vocational education system. It publishes the textbooks from 1st standard to 12th standard in all regional languages; the detailed list of the books is also provided in its website. We should applaud the NCERT for all its efforts in uploading the online textbooks, children’s books, etc. as these didn’t save money alone, but has saved time and energy of the students. It is known for its versatile publication, which includes:

  • Online textbooks

This consists of a huge list of books, comprising the textbooks from standard 1st to standard 12th. Such online provisions would definitely help the students, which in turn reduce the tension in finding the books in the stores.

  • Educational Cds

The textbooks and the academic related books are available in the Cds formats too.

  • Non-textbooks

This category consists of research surveys; books to guide the teachers; educational review books, etc. thus accounting to a versatile book dormitory.

The NCERT conducts scholarship programs like ‘National Talent Search’; ‘Chacha Nehru Scholarships’. The ‘National Talent search’ is conducted for students at VIII level; it consists of two tests namely, ‘Mental Ability Test (MAT)’ and ‘Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Such examinations motivate the students at the earlier levels; I should admit that when I was studying in the school, these examinations were considered, as one of the prestigious honor by the studious people. But it didn’t stop inspiring; it joined its hands with international organizations, like UNESCO, World Bank, UNICEF, etc. to impart quality training, regarding educational activities in India. Another major aspect of the NCERT is that it has a separate department, designed under the National Educational Policy for women education and development.
